2022-12-12 19:07:56 +0000 UTC View PostSo you want to read some chess books? Here are some that I recommend 📚♟ Logical Chess: Move by Move by Irving Chernev -A complete explanation of why strong chess players make the moves they choose. Chernev explains 33 master games and shows why each move was made. This is a choice if you want to improve your game. Looking for Trouble by Dan Heisman -Instead of asking you to find the winning move, you have to find the opponents threat and counter them before its too late. If you have trouble determining your opponents move, this is a great book for you. Modern Chess Openings by Nick de Firmian -Basically a dictionary covering chess openings. I recommend this for intermediate players.

2021-04-20 04:53:01 +0000 UTC View PostI’ve talked about some of the best chess openings so now I’m going to mention some of the worst. Here are 2 openings that I would avoid at all cost.... •Barnes Opening (1.f3); this move doesn’t take control of the center, blocks the f3 square for the Knight, doesn’t allow development of any pieces, and weakens safety of the king. •Ware Opening (1.a4); You might think this is a good move to bring out your rook but your opponent making the move e5 would quickly shut down that idea. Keep in mind that openings are meant to take control of the center, develop your pieces, and keep your king safe 👑 Message me if you have any questions 😘
2021-04-08 19:24:13 +0000 UTC View Post♟When to trade pieces♟ To trade or not to trade is the question. When you have the option to trade a piece think about these 4 questions first... 1. Do I have more or less material than my opponent? 2. How pushed is this trade? 3. How much will this benefit me? 4. Will this hurt or benefit my opponent?
2021-04-03 18:57:53 +0000 UTC View Post♟Rule of the Square♟ This rule helps with figuring out if a king can chase down an opponent’s pawn that is running towards promotion. If the king cannot capture or get in front of the pawn in time, then it will be able to queen. This can be used for offense or defense, depending on if you are the player rushing the pawn down the board or if you are the player making sure you can catch it. In order to figure out quickly if the pawn will be able to promote safely or not, we can use the rule of the square. You count the number of squares to the eighth rank (in front of and including the pawn square). In this example, there are six total squares (b3-b8) Then you count six squares to the left or right side on the eighth square (b8-g8) and create a box using those coordinates. The box drawn on the board to the left is the square that Black’s king would need to be in, in order to catch the White pawn. So in this position, if it was Black to move then 1…Kg3 or 1…Kg4 would allow him to enter the box and he could catch the White pawn before it could promote. However, if it is White’s move here, he can play 1. b4 and a new box has been created from b4-b8-f8. After b4, then Black’s king could not enter this new box and would not be able to catch White’s pawn. Understanding the “rule of the square” is important when you are in a position where you need to know if you can track down an opponent’s passed pawn with your king or not. Being able to create this square in your mind quickly will help to cut down on the time you would need to calculate. Memorize this rule and chase those pawns down 😁😘
2021-03-25 21:32:52 +0000 UTC View Post♟Middle Game Tips♟ After you have developed all your pieces, what should you do next? • Look for targets or weaknesses in your opponent’s position. • Make plans based on the targets and your opponent’s position. • Avoid trading queens, especially when you have an attack on the opponent’s king. • Keep your king safe, usually behind two or three pawns and near the corner. • Gain a space advantage.

The Fried Liver Attack 🍤 also called the Fegatello Attack •4.Ng5 d5 •5.exd5 Nxd5 •6.Nxf7 Kxf7 Defense is harder to play than attack in this so the Fried Liver is dangerous for Black. It’s a fun way to go after the king with a knight sacrifice. Try it and let me know how it plays 😘

2021-02-15 05:59:25 +0000 UTC View Post♟Check, Checkmate, Stalemate, Draws♟ •Check is when one side is threatening to capture the opposing king. This means the king is in trouble and it needs to get out of check. You can do this by moving your king to another space that is not in check or by moving another piece to block the check. But the best way to get out of check is to capture the piece that is causing the check. •Checkmate is when a king can not escape check by moving, blocking, or capturing so the game is over. •Stalemate is when a king is not in check but there are no other legal moves that can be made by one side. This is considered a draw so no one wins. If you’re winning, obviously avoid this but if you’re losing then this is the best case scenario. •Other draws can happen if both players agree to it, if the exact same move is played three times in a row, or if both players have lost all of their other pieces besides the king.
2021-02-10 01:02:50 +0000 UTC View PostPawns can only capture a piece diagonally but there’s an exception.... It’s called En Passant. Fancy and French 😏 If a pawn has advanced two squares on the first move, the opposing pawn may capture it as if it had only moved one square. So for example: •If you’re playing white, and you move your d-pawn forward three ranks over the course of the game, so that you’re now on the 5th rank, d5. •Then black has not moved their c-pawn or e-pawn forward yet and decides to bring the e-pawn forward two steps from its starting square, so that it’s now on e5, directly adjacent to your d5 pawn. •On the next move, you have the opportunity to capture black’s e-pawn as though it were on e6. If you take the move, you’ll take black’s pawn, and your pawn will finish on e6👑
